“I had always had a children's project in mind, not just textile. The idea of creating a universe for kids, focused on values and with their own personality. The birth of my daughter Lila in 2018 accelerated the process and encouraged it. She has been my main engine and constant inspiration. Wawaland is a transverse project that also seeks to entertain the little ones, ”says Ton Pernas, son of the Spanish creator Antonas. The firm, created halfway between Galicia and Lima, where her daughter was born and where, at first, the production of the first collection was focused, it offers fun designs where the color and comfort of the garments prevails, in addition to highlighting For his unisex creations: “I believe in a resounding way in a world where we are freer in every way. And our clothing codes are part of that freedom. I don't think we should also educate the little ones in gender roles, and clothing is a way to do it. In addition, the garments are unisex causes them to have a more productive and sensible use for the planet, that they have greater durability in the cabinets, which are inherited, that they are shared between boys and girls. It is a real declaration of principles. It must also be taken into account that our collections are born to be continuity, not to die in six months. ”

The durability of the garments and the absence of trends also constitute two of the cardinal points of the project, which emphasizes the education of the little ones. “I do not believe in trends as part of an unbridled consumption process. They must exist as part of the creative processes of the sector, since we are culture, but we have to make use of them sensibly. Our brand does not want to live from them and that is why we create continuity collections. I believe in comfortable and timeless clothes. That the kids can be at ease and have fun clothes. On some occasions we can coincide with the trends but it will be nothing more than a pure chance, because we will never do it consciously. I think the most important thing is to build your personality without depending on how others think we have to dress, or what we have to be. Trends make us less free and cancel our personality on many occasions, and I don't like that, ”says Pernas. And of course sustainability, without which the Galician creator and entrepreneur does not understand the fashion industry of the future: “Ethics is something that cannot disappear. We bet on being round and transparent in everything we do. We cannot generate the minimum doubt in any of our processes. We implement this environmental protection improving our traceability every day, working the RSC as transverse as possible and being honest with our clients. We are looking for every day with our team the best solutions to leave the slightest possible environmental mark. And one way is to generate a product that lasts in the cabinets and that is unisex, timeless, comfortable. In addition to being manufactured in the best conditions and with non -harmful materials. We cannot say at all that we are 100% sustainable, because no one can be. But we try to do everything possible, in addition to working the construction of values through our message. I think education is everything. ”

Wawaland: la nueva firma para niños, unisex y comprometida, que no solo hace ropa

Parallel to Wawaland's collection, Pernas has started a cartoon project with the characters of his firm, the Wawies.“We always had this idea. From the beginning. But the pandemic has accelerated the arrival of the series and we hope that before the end of 2022 it can be seen throughout the world. ”Through the adventures of these characters the designer tries to convey all the values of the Wawaland universe to the children.“Each drawing has a very marked personality and constructive values for children.Self -esteem, empathy, solidarity, environment, love for animals, teamwork.Together they always find the way to learn and help each other, in a fun way.The wawies have emerged from my head thinking about a better world for my daughter, and they have become real. They live with us and among us.They take care and believe that the human being is good in essence. ”
