An 'Englishman' with a good punch threatens to sneak into the row of left-backs for the 'Sele'

When Oviedo is still a real option, the queue of lanes asking for pitch is short but promising. Coach of the 'Sele' U-20, Vladimir Quesada, describes Arsenal's young prospect as a piece 'with a good punch' and capable of playing in three different positions, although he is not the only one who wants a space. Realidad shows a group of soccer players who are looking for consolidation, others who are trying to resuscitate and those who are falling behind.

Trained in England, the young Elián Quesada is the 'calling card' of the new crop of left wingers in Costa Rica, a position that, far from offering many solutions, often becomes a headache for First Clubs.

A survey carried out by 'Columbia' with the directors of the minor league of the 12 First Clubs evidenced this reality, since the majority of those consulted agreed that the left back and center forward are the positions that are most difficult to find.

Now it is Quesada's turn, who out of the corner of his eye looks at the "Tricolor" Mayor as an option for the medium term and that, in some way, marks a possible renewal by the band, dominated for more than seven years by Bryan Oviedo .

Behind Oviedo, Rónald Matarrita appeared on the route to Russia 2018, and then there are few footballers who raised their hands to take over a place.

Un ‘inglés’ de buena pegada amenaza con colarse en fila de laterales izquierdos para la ‘Sele’

Quesada began his career at English Reading and then jumped to Arsenal, a club he was part of and which reinforces its U-18 category.

The young man was born in England, his father is Tico, his maternal grandmother Irish and his paternal Swedish. In other words, due to blood ties, Quesada could play for up to four national teams.

Although it was Costa Rica who moved to call the 'Tricolor' U-20, despite the fact that he is up to two years younger than the rest of the players in his category.

«He is versatile. Quesada has great technique, he is very tall and can play various positions; as a left-back, as a center-back on the left or in the midfield, in addition to the fact that he is a player with a good punch », affirmed Vladimir Quesada, coach of the youth 'Sele'.

This is the list of left-backs who, for 14 years, have steadily strengthened the minor teams, in some cases with U-20 World Cups on their shoulders. Not all have made it to the Major:

Elián Quesada (17 years old): Arsenal, England.

Ian Lawrence (19 years old): Alajuelense.

Luis Jose Hernandez (23 years old): Saints

*U-20 World Cup South Korea

Yurguin Roman (25 years): Alajuelense

Rónald Matarrita (27 years old): Cincinatti MLS, United States.

Francisco Calvo (29 years old): San José Earthquakes to be confirmed.

*U-20 World Cup in Colombia 2007.

Bryan Oviedo (31 years old): Copenhagen, Denmark.

*U-20 World Cup winner in Egypt 2009.

Leslie Ramos (33 years old): His current reality is unknown.

*World Cup Under-20 in Canada 2007.

The future of the left lane.

The 'ladder' of left-backs with a past in national teams or minor world championships is long, although not everyone is enough to jump to the Major and establish themselves.

Barely two years older than Quesada, Ian Lawrence (19 years old) appears, today a handyman lane and who, recently, was called to different microcycles of Luis Fernando Suárez.

The other handy winger, Yurguin Román, was also called up in the process to Qatar, by Rónald González, and before Lawrence gained prominence in the eleven.

In the case of the exmorado Luis José Hernández, he accumulated some microcycles with the Mayor before he began his free fall in Saprissa and was lost from the lists.

In the end, the difficult renewal has caused Oviedo to remain in the calls, even though he does not play for Danish Copenhagen.

Perhaps the only consequence for Oviedo is that Matarrita got ahead of him and is currently the owner of Suárez's left flank.

With Oviedo and Matarrita stable on the lists and Lawrence with some calls, the young Quesada trains in the Goal Project with the U-20 and could be seen by the Colombian or his technical assistants, as happened with Jewison Bennette.
