González commented that of the 43 existing intensive care beds at the Juan Max Boettner National Institute of Respiratory Diseases and the Environment (Ineram), 33 of them are occupied by COVID-19 patients. He indicated that the beds that are being released will be used for patients with surgeries that were postponed, among them due to pneumonectomy, lung cancer, among others.

The professional recalled that during the critical period of the pandemic, they had 60 internees in improvised intensive care.

He mentioned that they have four units, and one of them with 11 beds was released today, with the discharge of the last patient hospitalized for COVID-19. This is Mr. Temistocles Cáceres, 87 years old, who already has two doses of the anti-Covid vaccine. “The man did not have a more serious condition nor did he need to be intubated thanks to the fact that he had the two doses of the vaccine, otherwise he would not resist,” he indicated.

Although González pointed out that medical personnel currently have a “respite” with the decrease in deceased patients, he warned about the increase in the number of infections and said that he does not rule out a new wave of the pandemic. “We prepare for a future wave. There are a lot of people who are traveling to neighboring countries, a lot of people who are going to Braisl, where the delta increases. A small circulation has already been confirmed here, but it could increase, ”he warned.

Finally, the doctor stressed the importance of speeding up general vaccination and urged people to complete the second dose to achieve immunization. Likewise, to continue with prevention measures, such as the use of face masks, hand washing and distancing.

A total of 67,305 people applied the second dose today according to data from the Ministry of Health. So far, 2,252,867 Paraguayans have been vaccinated and 1,175,423 have received the second dose.
